CSS Chooses Joe Craver As CEO

Joe Craver HeadshotConsolidated Safety Services Inc. has named Joseph Craver III its chief executive.

Craver joined CSS two years ago, and the company has since won more than $130 million in contracts, implemented a new compensation system for its employee‐owners, implemented an assortment of employee benefits, and significantly cut its health care costs, the company said.

CSS board chairman Jolanda Janczewski said Craver, who will be just the second CEO in the company’s 30-year history, brings “a tremendous amount of experience” in both federal services and commercial markets.

“Selecting the right CEO has been one of the most important decisions we have had to make,” Janczewski said. “Joe is the perfect choice.”

Craver said he hopes to build on the company’s recent successes and position CSS for a long‐term, sustainable future.

“I am excited about the new role and the opportunity, but what I am most excited about are the employee‐owners of CSS,” Craver said. “They are our future and the long‐term leadership of our company.

Craver graduated from the Naval Academy in 1981, and served on nuclear submarines and submersibles. He then worked for SAIC for 24 years, leading various organizations in the environment, energy, health, space, homeland security and IT industries, with staff ranging from 300 to more than 8,000 employees.

Mark HuYoung, managing partner at Northwind Partners, said he was glad to hear Craver had returned to a leadership role.

“With deep experience across both the federal and commercial markets, he will continue to have a tremendous strategic and tactical impact on the growth path of the organization,” HuYoung said. “For Joe, the ownership structure and associated passion of the employee-owners at CSS should be like coming home after spending almost a quarter century at the most well-known former ESOP in the GovCon arena, SAIC.”
